Movie Night at the Atheist Community Center Location: Atheist Community Center, 6514 SE Foster Road, Portland, OR 972066 For our third movie night, we took a break from documentaries and showed the comedy Saved! starring Mandy Moore, Macaulay Culkin and Mary-Louise Parker. Amanda brought amazing vegetarian chicken enchiladas and tequila cupcakes! Summer Solstice Potluck Picnic Location: Powell Park, SE 26th Ave. & Powell Blvd. in Portland Thanks to everyone who came to our picnic! We had a lot of fun, ate a lot of good food, and collected some much-needed food for the Oregon Food Bank.  Movie Night at the Atheist Community Center Location: Atheist Community Center, 6514 SE Foster Road, Portland, OR 972066 For our first-ever movie night, we showed Marjoe (1972), the Oscar-winning documentary about the life of one-time child evangelist and faith healer Marjoe Gortner. 2008 Summer Solstice Party Join us for BBQ burgers, hot dogs soda, water and other treats as we celebrate the Solstice and The National Day of Reason. If you would like alcohol please bring your own. Bring your favorite BBQ side dish if you like. 2007 Winter Solstice Party Thanks to everyone who came to our Solstice Party. Atheist & Catholic Dialog Night Location: Thank you to the 70 or so people who came to our dialog night. Special thanks go out to the people of St. Philip Neri Church for hosting us. A panel of Roman Catholics from the Peace & Justice Commission of St. Philip Neri Church and atheists from United States Atheists discussed views on ethics, religion, society and life. How are we different—and alike? Our goal was to foster communication and create understanding. Panelists stated their views and questioned folks on "the other side." This lasted about one hour, and was followed by about 30 minutes of questions from the audience. Presentation by Anthony Marr Tuesday, August 2, 2005 7:30-9:00 p.m. Location: Anthony Marr, a world-renowned wildlife preservationist, will be in Oregon from August 1-7th as part of his major national tour to explain his concept of Omniscientific Cosmology. From Mr. Marr's website: "Creationism seems to gain in power with every passing year. Our chief weapon has been the Theory of Evolution, which indeed is powerful and true, but when we pit Evolution against Creationism, we put ourselves at a deep disadvantage, because, false as Creationism is, it is nonetheless a complete cosmology, providing answers, false as they are, to the great philosophical questions, whereas Evolution, true as it is, is not a cosmology unto itself. And scientific cosmology, as we know it, does not yet touch upon life and society, and cannot provide full answers to the great philosophical question either. The Omniscientific Cosmology, on the other hand, with physics, astronomy and chemistry as foundation, and biology, ecology and sociology as edifice, embraces Evolution as an integral part, as well as other biological and social theories, thus capable of and indeed providing new and rational answers to the ancient philosophical questions. And with these answers, we can chart our course to our optimal destiny." Anthony Marr's Omniscientific Cosmology is a new and ground-breaking model of the Universe that embraces all the sciences - physical, biological and sociological. It’s Winter Solstice time when all good little Atheists get together to celebrate being part of Americas’ Fact Based community! So join us Saturday, 18-Dec-04 at 7:00 pm at the Center for our annual Winter Solstice Party. We offer good food and good company. Hope to see you there.
